As part of its primary role of advising shareholding Ministers of the New Zealand government
on their ownership
interest in a wide variety of companies and entities, COMU assists Ministers to
identify and appoint directors to oversee the management of Crown companies and entities in New Zealand. There
are approximately 300 governance positions on boards across the companies and entities we monitor,
comprising state-owned enterprises, Crown research institutes and other Crown
entity companies and statutory entities.
We encourage anyone who believes they have the skills and experience to contribute
to Crown governance to express an interest. This can be done at any time, and you
do this by registering as a candidate on COMU Appointments, and providing details
of your relevant skills and experience. You can also apply for specific directorships
which will be listed from time to time by COMU.
COMU has no direct responsibility for appointments to the several hundred other
non-commercial Government-appointed boards and commissions. However, we have a role
in providing nominations when requested by the agencies with responsibility for these
boards. For those that qualify, candidate databases are also available at the
Ministry of Women’s Affairs;
Te Puni Kokiri; the
Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs; the Office of Disability Issues
; and the Office of Ethnic Affairs.
